RIVERCAST

AI-driven flood forecasting with hybrid satellite communication.

RIVERCAST builds an intelligent early-warning and information system that predicts flood events earlier and more accurately. The project combines AI models, modern IoT measurement systems and a hybrid data link that uses both cellular networks and LEO satellites, so measurement data stays available even when cellular networks fail during a disaster.

The goal is to forecast water levels, flow rates and the fill level of flood retention reservoirs reliably, and to substantially raise the resilience and planning certainty of flood protection.

Project lead: TerraTransfer GmbH · Region: Erft catchment, North Rhine-Westphalia · Funding: EFRE programme GreenEconomy.IN.NRW.

IoT4SRGK Gütersloh

Improving heavy-rain hazard maps with real-time data.

The IoT4SRGK project enriches the heavy-rain hazard maps of the city of Gütersloh with live data from urban IoT sensors. By feeding measured water levels and rain intensities into the existing models, hot-spot areas can be identified earlier and emergency forces can be deployed in a more targeted way.

The consortium combines the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA (research and integration), the city of Gütersloh (operational deployment in the urban water network) and TerraTransfer (sensors, data loggers and dashboard).

Coordination: Fraunhofer IOSB-INA · Operational deployment: Stadt Gütersloh · IoT sensors and platform: TerraTransfer GmbH.
